5 Most Common Posture Types and Defects

posture types - back pains

Posture defects are one of the main causes of chronic back pain.

Some diseases of the spine appear in childhood, others can be acquired with age, consolidating abnormal postures. Most often, however, these ailments result from our neglect, reduced physical activity as well as overweight and obesity. Prevention of spine diseases and posture defects should start in early childhood. It is worth protecting the spine through proper posture while studying, working, or moderate physical activity, permanently inscribed in everyday activities. So what should you do to have a healthy back?

Here are the most frequent posture types of defects:

1.Kyphosis

Kyphosis is the backbend. There are many reasons for this defect. It is found both among adults and teenagers. It arises under the influence of lifting a heavy object and manifests itself in paralyzing pain. Kyphosis can occur as a result of tuberculosis, rickets, fractures, inflammation, and cancer. Sometimes the slouch is responsible for the disease, which causes compression of the lungs and reduction of chest movement. Breathing is difficult.

2. Lordosis

Lordosis is the anterior bend of the spine. There are changes in the cervical segment and degenerative growths that cause pain and limit the movement of the spine in all planes. This posture defect is treated by wearing an orthopedic corset, sometimes surgery is required.

3. Scoliosis

Scoliosis is the lateral curvature of the spine, which in essence is a curvature in three planes. Sometimes this posture defect occurs during childhood, and sometimes after injury, due to pain. If scoliosis is post-traumatic, everything returns to normal once the discomfort is gone. The disease occurs on various sections of the spine: thoracic, lumbar, cervical. Scoliosis is probably a genetic disease, but most often it has idiopathic etiology, i.e. of unknown cause.

Posture types and pains

Pain often accompanies back problems. The crooked spine has weakened muscles and ligaments that should stabilize it. A low active lifestyle means that muscles begin to sagging already around thirty. A sedentary lifestyle promotes weight gain and unnecessary muscle strain. Sometimes one move, for which our muscles are not prepared, causes a painful injury to the spine. The discs get worse with age - they flatten and begin to rub against each other. Inflammation occurs. If nerve damage occurs, we may be at risk of paresis of body parts.

If we suffer from curvature of the spine, we should examine ourselves regularly. When back pain occurs as a result of trauma, a specialist appointment should not be delayed:

  • in a situation where pain makes breathing difficult,
  • when the pain lasts for several hours,
  • if the pain radiates to the chest and extremities,
  • when we lose feeling in the arms and legs,
  • when there are problems with urine and feces retention,
  • if the pain does not go away after taking painkillers.

Neglecting spine and posture defects has serious consequences. It can lead to disability, exacerbation of neurological disorders, sometimes to cardiopulmonary failure and premature death.
